Purpose

Do you know your purpose?  Why you were created?  Some of us are fortunate enough to figure it out as early as 5 years of age.  Others have to wait a little longer to discover their purpose.  Furthermore, some of us leave this earth without ever realizing our purpose.

Do we all realize what it is we're supposed to do by the time we reach 5 years old?  Is it that some of us are just wired to focus on that purpose and more willing to move toward it, while others are too afraid to go there?  Is the decision ours or is it out of our control?

What does God say about purpose?

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Proverbs 16:4 The Lord has made everything for its purpose, even the wicked for the day of trouble.

Romans 8:28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.
1 Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.

Psalm 138:8 The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever. Do not forsake the work of your hands.

Colossians 1:16 For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.

Romans 11:36 For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.

God seems to have a lot to say about purpose, which leads me to believe it is important.  The challenge is figuring out your true purpose.  What with all the distractions in this world, it's hard not to see why it takes some so long to figure it out.

What do you do when you feel like you have no purpose?

Ephesians 2:10 clearly states, "For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."

So whether we feel it or not, we all were created with a purpose.  Now to discover it...that is the challenge.  Our journeys are all different.  We are not all purposed for the same thing.  But one thing we can know is that we do have a purpose.  Even when it does not feel that way, it is important for us to remember that our feelings are fickle. No matter how we feel, it is up to us if we want to let them keep us chained down, or if we will let them go and move forward.  Trust in Him and what He says, not what you feel.

It is also important to remember that God said to ask, and it shall be given.  If we're not sure, we can go to God and ask.  We may have to wait on Him, but we must be confident that He hears us, and that He will respond.  Most importantly, we must remain confident that He can do all things but lie.
